Grafikmagazin – Playful and bold design

Playful and bold design

Grafikmagazin is a visual treat from the first to the last page.

The third instalment of Grafikmagazin does not hold back. It slams into existence arresting all the senses with its bold design, premium paper selection and skilful print production. So much love went into creating this edition of Grafikmagazin (03-21). From the statement punk cover design by Dutch street art duo SOGOshow — printed on not only one, but three Pergraphica Colours — to the black edge painting by Bubi Mayer Buchbinderei, it's one to keep out on display.

Artistic duo SOGOshow — short for Sophia den Breems and Gordon Meuleman — have a very distinctive style, and they were given total creative freedom to have fun with the cover. The theme of this issue is food, so, if you look closely, you’ll find that most of the illustrations consist of things that can be eaten like turnips, fish and sausages to name a few.

They illustrated both the front and back covers, seamlessly blending the motifs into one another and having them wrap around the edges and peek out the back, creating one fluid visual.

SOGOshow are known for an interesting playful effect in their designs, where fine details can be appreciated from up close, but when looking at it from a distance, a 3D-like effect makes the designs pop out.

The black edge painting also contributes to the charm of this issue, merging with the illustrations and making all creative choices feel very purposeful and well thought-out.

Finally, the proverbial icing on the cake is the paper selection. Our uncoated fine paper gives the magazine a premium look and feel that elevates the overall design. As mentioned, the cover is available in three signature colours, making this edition a collector’s dream.

The three shades are Pergraphica Hopeful Green and Calming Blue from our Pale Colours range and Pergraphica Charismatic Red from our Rich Colours, meaning there’s something for everyone.

The magazine was offset printed by F&W Medien on a Pergraphica Classic Rough core that carries the premium feel throughout.
