Paper is not dead
Art prints are making a comeback, the choice of paper for them is key.
In recent years we have seen a comeback of art prints and interest in the traditional medium of paper. In the age of fast-paced digital communication and virtual reality, people increasingly appreciate the haptic and visual properties of paper.
Earlier this year, a group of talented Slovak designers met up for a special Pergraphica workshop. Artists spanning illustration, graphic design, photography, and fashion design had the opportunity to create original art prints and test the limits of their creativity in the context of the possibilities of digital printing technology — naturally, on Pergraphica.
The event was organised by Mondi, in collaboration with DIW print and Whatever Production agency to support the local creative community and pay tribute to the traditional medium of paper and the printing craft.
A limited run of 100 pieces were printed, to be sold directly by the artists.
The impetus for this project was a return to reality and to highlight that idea that PAPER IS NOT DEAD. Meeting the artists in person and using the full potential of the traditional printing press in combination with the exceptional properties of PERGRAPHICA® premium papers for creative production was not just inspiring for the participants, but also for the workshop organisers. The process of creative work and the discussion with the authors opened up many questions, not excluding current aspects of the sustainability of production.

The trend of art print production has spread across Slovakia, mainly thanks to risography technology, but we wanted to show artists other possibilities as well. Our HP INDIGO 12000 digital technology enabled artists to experience the same high quality achieved in offset printing, while offering personalisation, such as varying the colours in each print.
