It also means that we must have a clear commitment to transparency and independent verification. We know that this not only makes Mondi a trustworthy partner, but that it also underpins our resilience and our success as a business.
Responsible business practices
MAP2030 is built on a foundation of responsible business practices, grounded in full legal compliance. This spans environmental performance, human rights, communities, and responsible procurement. Robust policies, standards and management systems, enable us to measure performance, address risks, and meet our commitments. Not only is accountability for our overall sustainable development managed and monitored at four levels, but we also engage openly and transparently with stakeholders across the value chain, to run an inclusive and fair business.
Transparent measurements
Mondi provides transparent measurements for informed decision-making through paper profiles. This is a voluntary and uniform environmental product declaration developed by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI). This measurement tool is utilised and externally verified at the Mondi Neusiedler mill. Through tools such as Paper Profiles, our aim is to help the paper buyer make responsible paper choices.
Eco-labels & certifications
Mondi’s eco-labels and certificates cover our entire supply chain and validate our ambition as a company to make a positive contribution in our segment, while we transition from a linear to a circular economy.
As a business that relies on forests, zero deforestation and sustainable forest management is of the highest priority to Mondi. All our forestry operations are FSC™ certified. In addition, 100% of the wood we procure is responsibly sourced, of which 75% is FSC™ or PEFC certified, with the remainder meeting the FSC™ controlled wood standard.
Mondi’s paper portfolio is also comprehensively assessed for sustainability. All our uncoated fine papers from our mills Mondi Neusiedler in Austria, Mondi SCP in Slovakia, and Mondi Merebank in South Africa are Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bronze. All our Mondi uncoated fine papers from our European mills are EU Ecolabel certified. The world’s first eco-label Blue Angel, made in Germany, is carried by a selection of our NAUTILUS® papers. And the Austrian Ecolabel, created to guarantee better production standards for domestic audiences, is carried by a selection of our NAUTILUS® and BIO TOP 3® papers.
These are strong proof points of our commitment to product sustainability, driven by a simple goal: your peace of mind.
External recognition
Our sustainability performance has received recognition by a number of external corporate ratings and indices. We focus on ‘doing’ rather than ‘talking’ - so when others recognise our achievements, it affirms the path we’ve chosen. Here are a few recent examples:
- For nine consecutive years, Mondi achieved the EcoVadis Platinum rating, placing the international Group among the top 1% of companies assessed worldwide. Following the introduction of a more stringent EcoVadis methodology, Mondi most recently received a Gold rating, reflecting its continued strong sustainability performance and maintaining its position among the top 5% globally.
- CDP recognises Mondi’s leading practices with a prestigious 'A' score for both climate change and forests for the sixth consecutive year.
- World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) ranks Mondi #15 out of 800 companies assessed for leading practices in biodiversity and ecosystem stewardship.
