At Mondi, sustainability is more than just a guiding philosophy. It’s core to our business and at the heart of everything we do. Our business strategy of pursuing sustainable value-accretive growth is pegged to the Mondi Action Plan 2030 which, as our sustainability framework, sets out the actions we need to take to meet our ambitious sustainability goals by 2030. We place great importance on the sustainability of our paper portfolio. This can only be achieved by embedding sustainability in all our actions, across our entire supply chain, from sourcing right through to production and logistics. To support our efforts, three sustainability pillars form the bedrock of all actions we take.
Mondi strives to produce eco-efficient papers with the greatest possible reduction of waste and environmental emissions to water and air. Our track record demonstrates great strides in CO₂ reduction and optimisation of our production processes.
But the ambitious and industry-leading science-based targets that we have set for ourselves, as outlined in Mondi Action Plan (MAP2030), are aimed at reducing GHG emissions and mitigating climate change even further.
These targets can only be achieved by investing significantly in our operations so as to improve energy efficiencies and resource utilisation, and to reduce waste to landfill.

The numerous eco-labels and third-party certifications that our products and our business processes have obtained validates our ambition as a company.

We do all of this, not only for the external recognition it bring us as a leader in the industry, but because sustainability lies at the heart of our business.

Cycle of sustainability
The ability to create high-quality paper from a waste product means making the most of the resources we have. However, paper cannot be recycled indefinitely. After around 4-6 lifecycles, the fibre is no longer suitable for recycling. So even with the most thorough post-consumer collection of recovered paper, we would run out of usable paper to recycle. This is why we produce many of our brands with fresh fibre. However, our European mills only utilise pulp from sustainably managed forests, controlled or recycled sources, some of which are managed directly by Mondi. Thus, unlike traditional producers of recycled paper, Mondi covers every aspect of the cycle of sustainability
