As a global standard, the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Program is the most advanced standard for safe, circular and responsible materials and products.

Having products that are Cradle to Cradle Certified® means we take action on sustainability by using resources from nature and returning them to nature as nutrients. This is how we can keep materials in circulation and eliminate waste.
Next life: Taking inspiration from nature
Trees are a crucial component of the paper production process – but they are also a prime example of the Cradle to Cradle® concept at its core. A fruit tree may have many blossoms, but only some of these will turn into fruits. Some of the tree’s blossoms, leaves and fruits fall down. Luckily, those do not go to waste, instead they become nutrients for the tree and other life within its ecosystem.
Our paper making process takes the inspiration from nature and keeps the limited natural resources flowing in cycles. We use either fresh fibre from responsible forest management systems or 100% post-consumer recycled materials for the production of our papers.

Reaching the Bronze level from the Cradle to Cradle Certified® Products Program shows that all of our brands from Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper mills in Austria, Slovakia and South Africa have been externally verified to meet these high standards and demanding requirements of this certification.
The Cradle to Cradle Certified® Product Standard assesses the safety, circularity and responsibility of materials and products across five categories of sustainability performance: material health, product circularity, clean air and climate protection, water and soil stewardship, and social fairness.
We have certified our extended portfolio to provide you with peace of mind when choosing any of our papers.
Material health: Bronze
We carefully select and assess the materials used in our paper products, with the aim of protecting human health and the environment. Our products comply with applicable chemical legislation, including REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals). In line with Cradle to Cradle Certified® requirements, we continue to evaluate material inputs and identify safer alternatives where needed, while maintaining product quality and performance.
Product circularity: Bronze
We design our paper products with circularity in mind, selecting and optimising materials so that products can be safely kept in circulation at the end of use. In 2025, 88% of Mondi’s packaging and paper portfolio was reusable, recyclable or compostable, based on revenue. Mondi’s updated target is for 100% of its packaging and paper products to be designed to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2030.
Clean air & climate protection: Bronze
We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with science-based Net-Zero targets. By the end of 2025, Mondi had reduced absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 48% from the 2019 baseline, while specific Scope 1 and 2 emissions per tonne of saleable production had decreased by 30%. Our targets are to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46.2% and relevant Scope 3 emissions by 27.5% by 2030, and Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050, all from a 2019 baseline. In 2025, 77% of the Group’s energy came from renewable sources.
Water & soil stewardship: Bronze
We manage water responsibly across our mills, using water efficiently, reusing it where possible and treating process water before it is safely returned to the aquatic environment. In 2025, Mondi completed water stewardship and biodiversity assessments across 100% of its mills and forestry operations and developed action plans for 100% of these operations. Mondi also maintained 100% responsibly sourced fibre: 82% of wood was FSC®- or PEFC-certified, with the remainder meeting the FSC Controlled Wood standard. We remain committed to zero deforestation and to safeguarding biodiversity and water resources.
Social fairness: Bronze
People are an essential part of sustainable ecosystems. We are committed to providing purposeful employment, building skills for long-term employability and creating a safe, inclusive workplace that supports health and wellbeing. These priorities are embedded in the Mondi Action Plan 2030 and support the Cradle to Cradle Certified® framework and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
